our ultimate mission
The funds given by all those who participate will go to fund the David Warsen Legacy 5K race/walk. We want to remember David, in a way that is unique to him. It is an event meant for those who treasure him, to have fun together in a community of people who support one another in love. Also, to promote fitness and health to us all.
In turn, additional gifts given and raised will go toward care packages sent to our Navy SEALs and other forces deployed to Afghanistan. Along with this we also want to get our area children, schools and community involved in a personal way, by sending homemade cards to our deployed forces, along with the care packages. These are the most special gifts that our sons, brothers, fiances, husbands and friends will treasure, knowing that we care about and love them. No matter what our feelings are about this war, our SEALs and soldiers put their lives on the line every day unselfishly giving of their time away from their families, protecting their own brothers in arms and even giving of their life, in service. We need to let them know that we care in some small way. That WE think about them and appreciate ALL that they give for us everyday.
We, through the David Warsen Legacy fund would like to have a scholarship set up for young soccer players who's families may struggle financially. Allowing them to play and have the proper equipment needed for success. This would be near and dear to David's heart.
The David Warsen Legacy along with Nick Foster have established the David Warsen Service scholarship for East Kentwood High School Seniors to help them further their education. Seniors will submit an essay describing what service means to them. Two people will be selected to receive the first annual scholarship! We hope that David will inspire these students to really think about what it means to make a difference in this world through service to their community, county and world. I challenge everyone to really think about this! It is how our world will be made better for future generations!
We are working on a new part of David's Legacy. Acts of Kindness, either random or not. Just doing something nice or kind for someone. It doesn't need to be big or expensive. An example may be, buy a cup of coffee, or pay for someones meal behind you in line at a drive thru. Help someone load their groceries in their car. Help someone who looks like they could need something to pick them up from a bad day. Smile at others during the day! Engage in life! Be positive. Help the elderly. Pay attention to others and be a positive influence. David made people smile! He inspires us as a family every day to be the same. He was kind and watched out for those who may need a little extra support and love! We are thankful for his example, of goofy, crazy zest for life! We challenge YOU to carry on his LEGACY!!!! It does make this world a better place!
Please help our mission to honor David in this special way to be a successful one. But don't forget to Rock the Short-Shorts!!!!!!! And never forget - "DAVE WAS HERE"!!!

david's amazing life
"It is a privilege that I must earn every day... I do not advertise the nature of my work, nor seek recognition for my actions... Uncompromising integrity is my standard. My character and honor are steadfast... I lead by example in all situations. I will never quit. I persevere and thrive on adversity... My training is never complete... I will not fail." ~ Excerpts from the Navy SEAL Creed.
David never took life for granted and he viewed life in a way that not many people, young or old, can do. Soaking up the moments and living in love were at the heart of David's existence. He took advantage of every opportunity that he was given. He put love into everything that he did and everyone that he knew. If he was going to do something, he was going to do it with love and compassion out of the goodness of his heart. His heart is the most amazing heart that has ever existed. He could see past peoples faults and flaws, and capitalize on their strengths. He was the motivation that people needed to make changes in their lives. David lived as a very selfless person. There were times where he could have been more selfish, but he wanted the best for others even if it was to his disadvantage. He brought out the best in everyone that he was around. His laughter and smile were contagious. You could just sense the feeling of love when he was in your presence. I have heard on countless occasions how when David would be talking to you, you felt that you were the only person in the room. He took pride in being an honest person with morals that God would love for all of us to have. David was comfortable in his own skin and he had a confidence that most will never have. He was the first to admit when he was wrong and he was the first to try and fix things. David took pride in those he loved the most and took the opportunity, when given, to share their stories. Most people will never know the challenges and struggles that he faced, but that is because he was a silent champion. He did not use his triumphs to gain other people's respect; instead he used his triumphs to push himself further in this world.
It is hard to write about David and not write a book. There are so many wonderful stories to tell of David to show exactly the gentle being that he is. His life is only a motivation for everyone to strive to be a better person. Through David's death, he continues to teach us all about life and the true importance of it. If there is one quote or verse that I feel truly represents David and the way he loved, it is 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8:
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails."
How challenging is it to live in the world we live in and love everyone in this manner? It takes my breath away when I read this verse and think about him. What an honor to know and be loved by someone with such a pure love.
